Normally the diagnosis of this cancer begins with the physical examination of patient. The physicians also collect the detail about patient, for this reason they demand previous medical reports of patient.

In order to get an idea about the extent and area of cancer, the doctors may go for X-ray, CT scan, MRI and some other imaging techniques. These tests may help the doctor in determining the cause of Mesothelioma cancer.

Thoracoscopy:

In case of Pleural Mesothelioma , the doctor suggest this test . In this test , the complete  examination of chest cavity is done with the mean of a special kind of instrument named as thoracoscope. First  a doctor made a cut into chest wall and then insert this instrument into the chest between two ribs. In order to minimize the pain and discomfort of patient, this test is administered in hospital just after giving a a local anesthetic or painkiller to the patient.

When the doctors see the fluid accumulation in the chest then they drain it with the mean of a needle and  gentle suction  and this whole process is implies as thoracentesis.

Peritoneoscopy:

When the patient is suffered from Peritoneal Mesothelioma cancer then the physician used peritoneoscope, a special tool to look inside the abdomen. This tool is inserted into abdomen by making an opening.  This test is conducted by doctor in the hospital after giving the patient a local anesthetic.

Incase the abdomen is filled with fluid then the doctor remove this fluid through a process named as paracentesis.  This process includes putting a needle into abdomen and using gentle suction to remove the fluid.

Biopsy:

This test is performed when the abnormal tissue growth is found. Normally, this test is accompanied with thoracoscopy or peritoneoscopy. The Doctor removes a small amount of tissue and then this sample is examined by a Pathologist under microscope.

Asbestos Exposure:

Actually when a person inhaled or ingested the asbestos fibres then it results in inflammation and infection in the human’s tissue.  According to one study, more than 30 percent of those diagnosed with mesothelioma have an exposure to asbestos.

Some people who are working in the industries and its associated area may expose to asbestos when they breathed. Normally Mesothelioma cancer has been observed in the men over 40 years of age.  There are also some cases in which a patient encountered with asbestos exposure problem in the household environment although he/she doesn’t know about it.

When the cases of Mesothelioma cancer increased in 1980’s then U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) instituted restriction on asbestos. In European areas the number of Mesothelioma cancer begins to rise.

Although the doctor regarded asbestos as a major cause of Mesothelioma cancer yet there are some unproven causes of it.

Genetic Mutation of Cells:

According to the Mayo Clinic, the genetic mutation is also a cause of cancer as it changed the healthy body cells into the cancerous or abnormal cells.  The abnormal cells divide and multiply and invading the normal cells, thereby causing the cancerous growth.

The doctor don’t know exactly what cause the genetic mutation .However the growth of mesothelioma cancer may result due to certain factors such as inhesrited condition, environmental factors, overall health , smoking etc.
Simian Virus SV40:

Some studies has shown that this virus causes mesothelioma cancer in  animals. But the link between this virus and cancer hasn’t proven  yet.

Thorium Dioxide:

According to another study, when some people undergone an x-ray using thorium Dioxide they become the victim of mesothelioma . Now this type of x-ray is not using by the doctors because of the link between thorium dioxide and cancer.

One report demonstrates that only cause of Mesothelioma cancer is the exposure to asbestos and dust particles. The people who are working in office, factory and other places may suffer from the cancer of Mesothelium just because of asbestos. The person who is suffering from mesothelioma if has a habit of cigarette smoking then of course this habit may enhance the growth of cancerous cells although the smoking is not directly a cause of mesothelioma cancer.

Mesothelioma cancer is categorized into two major forms such as malignant Mesothelioma and benign Mesothelioma. The malignant mesothelioma is very severe form of mesothelioma as the diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma tumor and cancerous cells is not an easy task for the physician. The benign Mesothelioma cancer is not consider vey serious as it is due to presence of non-cancerous cells .Sometimes the doctors does not think it is important to treat benign mesothelioma cancer. Moreover the benign Mesothelioma cancer is very rare among the asbestos related disease.

The sign and symptoms of Mesothelioma cancer are chest wall pain, difficulty in breathing and weight loss without any reason.
