The bladder is a hollow body organ which is located in the lower abdomen of a human body. It stores the liquid waste which is produced by the kidneys known as the urine. The Urine passes from each kidney into the urinary bladder through a tube called urethra.

An outer layer of muscles environs the inner lining of the bladder. When the bladder is full with the waste, the muscles along the bladder wall tighten to allow the urination. After that, the urine leaves the urinary bladder via the urethra tube.

The walls of the bladder are linked with the cells which are known as the squamous cells and transitional cells. More than 90percent of the bladder cancers begin in the transitional cells. This kind of bladder cancer is known as the transitional cell carcinoma. Only about 8percent of the bladder cancer patients have squamous cell carcinomas.

Men are more likely to develop the bladder cancer than women, and older people are affected more. Up to 90percent people who are affected by the bladder cancer are over the age of 55. Exposure and introduction to some chemicals used in manufacturing industry like dyes, paints, hairdressing supplies, paint thinners, etc is associated to getting a higher risk of having bladder cancer. The smokers are also at a higher risk for development of bladder cancer.

The symptoms and signs for bladder cancer may be; loss of weight and appetite, pain in the abdomen or back, pain in urination or urgency in urination. The most common and obvious symptoms of bladder cancer are to have blood in the urine during urination. If a person is having blood in the urine, does not mean that the person has bladder cancer, there could be other infections which can lead to blood in the urine.
